I think the thing is that they’re not YouTubers. They have a day job, and a side project, and a bad dose of the OCD.
What project car is ever really finished anyway 😂
Assuming it survives open engine surgery and gets a clean bill of health, I’m bringing the M6. A car perfectly suited to a twisty technical track, oh yes.
I shall be a glorious sounding mobile chicane until I land in the Irish Sea.
Nvidia don’t give a s**t about gamers now, they’re just cranking out megabucks in the AI sector.
Power draws are getting stupid too, I don’t want a 250w CPU and a 500w GPU, may as well just run an electric heater.
Does it still have the Sachs shocks and when were they last refurbished? Affects values quite a lot, even though that car screams garage queen/collectors piece at that mileage.
It saved me hours today converting some gnarly database views from MySQL to PostgreSQL. Didn’t get everything right because it didn’t know the schemas but when I asked it to correct one example based on the schema it did it. Nothing I couldn’t have done myself with Google and time, but it was a...
Nah, £70-£80 a game? Screw that.
Yeah, so I just played through the first big section of HL:Alyx after you get the flashlight.
You know that thing HL:2 did with the dark areas, jump scares and sound effects? That. In VR.
I get that completely, but I thought it was a decent way of doing a tutorial-but-not-a-tutorial thing once I was through it. It’s definitely not always intuitive but worth persevering with IMO.
Half Life 3 soon! Whoooooo!
it’s a very different game to half-life, because you don’t have any armour and it’s absolutely not a run and gun game. It’s more logical puzzling with some shooting action.
Where it is exactly the same as half life, is in the atmosphere and the general quality and polish of the game.
I’m...
Having the usual fun at my place.
We were bought about a year ago by a private equity shop and merged with a complimentary company in the same sector. Unusually, they don’t do the exact same stuff as us and the products mesh together nicely which will improve cross-sell. Actually a smart move...
Ah yes, good old naming conventions.
Had a couple of servers at a previous place of work, ASMAB and ASMAC.
First one was short for “All Senior Managers Are b******s”
You can guess the other one yourself 😂
Yeah, that video was tedious. Would hardly have taken them any longer to take the bits off the car properly FFS and all the jumping around and yelling for something that was blindingly obvious…. Just why.
What Taylor brought to it for me was a bit of chemistry with Alex, they had me in stitches...
You need to get the fault codes read, the anti-pollution message could be caused by a multitude of things, evap system leak, lambda probe going bad, cat going bad, ignition system, the list just goes on and on.
I think the Mk4 is really underrated because the Fiesta ST came along and was just that bit more fun in the group tests. But then everyone with a Fiesta as a daily wants to change the s**t suspension. I’d like to run a mk4 for a while too.
I thought that, but it’s not logical because hybrids don’t have them and they can have pretty chunky battery packs plus a tank of diesel/petrol making a reeeely lovely combination.
Nearest I can find from the government announcement at the time was some vague b****cks about raising awareness of...
Nothing to do with ULEZ etc, it’s just to make the car easily identifiable as an EV.
I asked BMW to give me normal plates but they said no because it was “for safety”, whatever that means. Couldn’t be arsed to push the point, I suspect it was just a “computer says no” response. Not sure what...
I think they’ve made a sensible choice, it’s a funky car and making the “free” colour a bold one will make it stand out from the herd.
Even if the reaction is just “I like that, but in a different colour” it’s still capturing attention.
Woah now, what’s all this common sense I’m hearing? Are you SURE you work in security 😉
We’re definitely getting there now at my place, but getting the security/risk stuff in place…. well….. let’s just say a bit more of that attitude was needed.
Enterprise application support in fintech with a lump of AWS on the side.
It’s unusually deep dive support, digging through stack traces etc.
The team are really good, but demoralised and generally beaten up by offshoring and years of being under-resourced. I’d want commitments on being able...
Looks like I’m going to be asked to move back into technical team management again.
I’m a bit torn to be honest. I love being a techie and I hate the stress of management bullshit, but on the other hand I can see they are absolutely sinking and need an experienced manger to sort stuff out...
