Well my friends,
More warranty work required. The auto headlights now have a mind of their own. Broad daylight, lights come on, then lights go off, then lights come on, then lights go off........... etc. I evetually swith the sidelights on which disables the autolights.
This is not...
Well, the 172 went in for the cold start problem, also for condensation in the headlight. Guess what ? On the morning I took it in, no cold start problem and no bleedin condensation. Renault could not find any specific problem with the cold start, but their computer program mentioned to...

Does the light work on the clock ?
The bulb blew in my valvers clock, and took out the live feed in the unit. Dont know about the mirrors though, but suspect its NOT related, looking at the wiring diagram in Haynes.
Even if you go for just new bushes, youve still gotta get the bleedin alternator out. This will most likely remove all the patience you have, and all the skin on your hands.
Getting it back in is the hard bit. Youll have no chance of setting the tension on the belt with the tension wheel...

Valvers are notorious for this. Mine did it. Apparently, its to do with air in the system running through the pump. A long time ago, I was told by renault that you can self bleed them by simply parking the car up on grass (so as not to scuff the tyres) and turning from full lock to opposite...
I changed the alternator on my 16v. It is a complete nightmare !!! If you can afford it, get someone else to do it. If you cant afford it, youll be taking the front of the car off !!! If youve got big hands, forget it...
Chortle at the comments. Dont know what reg, as I was too busy watching the green gearshift light !!!!!!!!
Maybe next time one cuts me up, Ill just do lots of hand gestures, and leave it at that......
Unless of course, it is one of those ones with the strange flashy lights.

Driving through a 30 mph area with 4 people in car, going out for a meal, doing about 35 (oops !),when a blue box Volvo pulls out of a side street and cuts me up. I quickly nip round him and we get to a national speed limit stretch of about 4 miles. I go to about 60, and he catches me up and...
Yup,
I was going to start exactly the same thread..... spooky !
On a morning, if you turn it over, the engine fails to fire up. Release the key, and try again, and all is well. Once the engine is warm, it starts every time, even after its been in the company car park all day - no problem...

Well,
Mk 2 172 now has 4k on it, BUT, drivers side headlight unit keeps steaming up. This obviously must affect the beam alignment. Anybody else had this. Probably going to talk to the dealer ref warranty.
Any other suggestions ?

Standard alarm was a renault badged affair. Probably sourced by the supplying dealer. The control unit should be sat on the gearbox tunnel, in the car behind the ashtray area, just in front of the gearlever
