The 1st gear knocking could be the rear dogbone engine mounting. Driveshafts are fairly common to go on 172's, quite a few threads on it recently.

When fitting mine today, we used a quick spray of wd40 on the coilovers. Should be reet.

yeah i had this problem, my bolts for the isofix bar didn't have the torx bit in the head either. i could only get the bolt so far out and then just cut the head off it. still got the rest of the bolt stuck in th hole now!

underneath the passenger side mirror? it's like a black nipple poking out. pretty sure that's it.

Mine always rises up to near the max line once driven and got fully warm. It sits on just above halfway when cold too.

you may as well change the tensioner and the idler whilst you're there. it's probably the idler that's causing the squeeking as your describing the same symptoms i had.

i would say gsf, but there aint one in sunderland! ngk platinum plugs pfr6e-10's are what you need.
