The back on the mk1s arent too bad in relation to the sides, its th vertical bits, ie bumper and bonnem of boot that get it bad

I carry a stearing lock in the car on the passenger seat....makes a very useful dtereent, esp if you get out clutching it

A normal key will cost about a fiver to be cut and take about 5 mins...as per your question. What you are really after is a complete new key from Reno, IIRC for a mk1 is just under £100, plus programming it, and you need to bring ID wiht you and your V5 when you order it

Safety Devices will doy ou custom cages, but you need to ring up and speak to them, emailing - you are ucky if you get a reply. K-tecs are for show ONLY.....if you have ever seen a clio that has rolled the front section is not very strong, this is where you need that reinforcement......k-tecs...

So how would it work on a mk1?

I can confirm, on the mk1s atleastt hat there is no reinforcement visable under the car, you will find that the bolt holes are through a reinforced member, in the case of the mk1 they nount through the raised section that passes from the door to hand brake. Odd that the mk2s come wiht their...

Only thing i can think of is get some custom subframes made up

No, IIRC the corbon bonnet actualy weight MORE then the Ali std one. You need to get extreme....i have 2 bucket seats, A frame trim, trim running along the bottem of the doors, dash and door cards...thats it, headlining, rear trim, carpet, centre console...its all gone :)
