that's a very out dated outlook. Yes it can do it, just as you can do without lots of other things, but it doesn't make it good or correct.
Sounds like your mapper struggles with the settings of the omex closed loop control, it's more complex than some systems as every setting is available...
I've just changed a sump on a 172 that had a box done at a "local independent". They cracked the sump getting the box back on. Careful who you let work on your car
it made a difference of 8bhp over the stock airbox, with cams. On a high comp car I did last week with 438s it made 9.8bhp difference over the stock airbox with a panel filter

are the throttles opening fully? I had loads of greif getting AT's to open to full throttle (f**king s**t design)
got to be honest, drove another tdf itb car after doing the clutch and it felt like standard power, not the 212 is was claimed at.
