If I start out with cold pressures of 30 all round on 888s after about 15 minutes on track the pressures will be about 48 front and 40 rear. If you leave them like that they'll wear out in no time. Nowadays I'll have a shortish first session just to get them warmed up a bit and then bleed some...
I think mine are a GG compund or something (the hardest ones anyway, I'm sure it says GG on the sidewall) - there are at least two, possibly three compunds nowadays.
Any chance of extending your toyo deal to your time attack tyre compound advisers????!
PS - the ones in those pics have been left overinflated. Would guess you didn't let any pressure out once they had got up to temperature so you were running 45+ psi when hot.
You can do if you want to reduce/keep the same sidewall height but it'll probably mean the tyres cost more and you have less choice. I'd be happy with 45s so I haven't tried to find out!
Get the hardest compound and they're fine. Get a set of cheap 15" wheels and they won't cost you much more than any other tyre to run on track. If you understeer everywhere you'll muller them but otherwise they're great. Depends on the track too - Rockingham was very hard on my set but last time...
Chr1st! £500 from Tesco was the best I could get and they won't even talk to me if I say 'roll cage'! I'm a married 32 year old professional with a clean licence, full no claims and a garage in a low risk area so HIC will be getting a call soon...
I've got a standard exhaust on my 172 with a newish back box (replaced under warranty) but the centre section is about to go and I'm out of warranty now. Renault want nearly £200 for a centre section and I can't find one anywhere else. Does anyone else do them to fit the standard front section...
That's exactly what I need to know thanks Mark! I just want more grip for a euro track day trip. I usually use 15" 888s on track but can't bothered lugging them over there (or leaving them on the car for 5 days round europe when it might rain) so I want to get the grippiest normal road tyres I...
45 is the sidewall heigth as a percentage of width, so a 205/45 has a very slightly higher sidewall than a 195/45. The speedo would under-read a little bit, but it over-reads a bit at the minute so that might not be a bad thing!
My real concern is whether it does anything nasty to the...

My cup sits on Turinis with standard 195/45/16s at the minute. Is there any downside to fitting 205/45/16s as on the Trophy?
I guess the speedo would be a tiny bit out and there would be a wee bit more weight, but I can't see any other problems.
Anybody?
Cheers

Slight tangent from disc size, but I can see the logic in going to 4 pots if you're really serious about track work, but not increasing the disc size. Bigger discs means more unsprung/rotating weight due to discs themselves and increase in wheel size so would probably cause more problems than it...
Necessary braking capacity isn't just dictated by power or weight on track, but a combo of the two. More power carrying standard weight in to braking zone = more speed to scrub off. Standard power with unreduced weight = lots of mass to slow down.
Lightweight cars (eg caterfields) usually don't...

Brembo HCs, braided lines, 5.1 fluid and DS2500s have seen me through loads of days on track so I don't see how there is any need to go for bigger discs on a road car.
Your problem is lack of maintenance, not disc size.
£70 windscreen excess. No idea what the weight difference is, but there's not much point buying a cup and then using unnecessarily lardy parts. Always thought the screen was a bit rubbish though TBH - it's an original Renault one but has a 'wobble' about half way down all the way across when you...

Big stone chip right in the middle of my screen on way to work this morning - aaargh!
Am I right in thinking the 172 Cup has a lighter/thinner screen than the rest of the clios? If so, how do I get my screen replaced on the insurance without them just fobbing me off with the...
If mine lose traction under hard acceleration I get horrible banging/vibrating. I'm hoping it's just the engine mounts but I don't think it is! It happens any time I lose any traction under acceleration, whether on the road in the wet or getting the power down too early out of bends on track on...
I want some of that! Are they the ones I've just seen on the K-tec site? Saw them while idly browsing for some new pads. Need a road/track pad to replace my DS2500s. How do they compare? They need to be OK for commuting though...

An SVA kit is a factory option (c.£2k I think) so I guess it can be made road legal if you're that way inclined. I can think of better road cars for £20k though and quite a few better track cars for £20k, so I'm not sure it would get my money IYSWIM. Nice though, and a lot of kit for the money.
