OK - I'm trying to fit sportlines to my 172 cup. It's all standard at the moment. I Started with the rear because that's easiest. Followed the fubar guide to the letter but I can't get the rear beam to drop down far enough to get the springs out. I tried loosening the top mounts for the dampers...
I know nowt about this, but I would have thought that spreading the potential load across two mounting points would be preferable. Are those both seat belt mounting points though, or is one of them a hole that just happens to fit?
Like I said, I know nothing on this but just some thoughts!
I'll have to bodge some sort of solution together. Rubbish pedal spacing and standard rubbish driving position means h&t is technically possible but not natural/easy for me in the clio. Pretty much every other car I drive isn't a problem, just the clio.
I find the pedal spacing on my 172 useless for heel & toe - the pedals are too far apart.
Has anyone replaced either the brake or throttle pedal on their car to change this? If so, what did you do?
Cheers
Tom.
I'm thinking of sticking Eibach sportlines on my 172 Cup. They sound good for track use, but will they be noticeably harsher than the standard springs in everyday use? Anybody here got a set fitted and have an opinion?
Cheers
Tom
I fancy upgrading the coils on my 172 Cup to something which works better on track but is no harsher than the original setup for my daily commute. I've heard good things about Eibach. Would it be the proline or sportline that I'm after? Any other recommendations?
Will the standard dampers...
Eh? 'Show cage'???? What's the point in that? Messes up your interior, doesn't help much if you roll and is completely lethal if you or a passenger bangs your head on it in an accident?
If you have any sort of cage in your car then you need to wear a crash helmet at all times. Seems a bit of...
Good luck Shell. You'll end up happy either way. Mine's mint but it sounds like the miles might be a bit high for you - I don't really want to sell it yet anyway. PM me though if you can't find a decent one with the miles you want.
Not enough people here sticking up for the 172 Cup IMO!
If you do loads of motorway miles then I'd agree the 182 is the car to go for, but if you're on twisty A-roads and country lanes the Cup is just brilliant. If I didn't do motorway miles (unexpected job move) there's no way I'd consider...
Just out of interest, what would you spend on a decent 172 Cup?
Mine's a silver 172 Cup on a 53 plate with 40k miles. It's mint apart from kerbing on the turinis (previous owner's GF to blame) which I haven't got round to sorting out yet. I love it but I'm driving 100 miles a day on the M42...
OK, so I've just put on my new rear discs with new bearings and pads, but I didn't pack any grease in with the bearings. Is this a mistake, or are they OK as they are sealed units anyway?
(PS - my car is a 53 172 cup (no ABS). The discs which came off were probably the original ones but they...
Don't get me started on obscuring reg plates - insurance fraud is OK too? If you choose not to insure your car for the ring (I include myself in this) then that's your choice but you have to stomach the fact that you can't claim it if things go wrong. If you can't afford to insure your car but...
Everyone does it so it's OK?
I'm going this month. I know there is a fair chance that someone will post pics etc if I stack it. Personally, when I see a trashed car on a track day I just count myself lucky that it's not me this time. Anyone who thinks it's funny doesn't have a proper...
Cars crash at the ring all the time. We all know that. I'm not sure photos of someone else's misfortune are in good taste. Would you take photos of cars crashing on the M1 and post them on here? I know I'd be annoyed if someone started snapping away at my trashed P&J and I'd ask you (politely)...
It's not worth the bother getting the £50 discs IMO as they'll come without bearings which will cost you another £50 plus getting someone to press them in. By the time you've done it it's just extra hassle for the sake of saving about £10. Don't re-use your old bearings as if the discs are shot...
I'm thinking of replacing mine as they're on the way out.
The car's a 172 Cup used for track days but also 100 mile round trip daily commute so I can't go for anything too firm.
Is there anything out there a bit better quality than stock which would fit the bill?
Are they a DIY job to...
