I've owned both. If they were both in equal condition i'd get the 172. Cheaper, no slower, more mpg, better colours. If you're thinking of ever getting coilovers, makes sense to get the cheaper car. The exhaust is also cheaper to replace, which will need doing at some point.
Didn't seem to clever chucking that much cash at it. The splitter's costing nowt (exchanging it for some tings), the respray is under £50, the bonnet under £200. Can live with that, and as the bonnets black already any stonechips won't show!
New plans afoot. Getting the wing sprayed in a week or so, flame red (original colour). Then I've got a CF Leon Cupra splitter arriving soon. Then getting the bonnet carbon skinned.
I bought the cup as I preferred it. Never been a fan of xenons, found the standard lights better with up-rated bulbs. Hated the auto-wipers, but the cup wipers needed upgrading to the batter stalk control. Was getting buckets so the faux-leather wasn't an issue, and I prefer AC to climate...
The ABS WON'T be due to fuse removal, that also changes the brake bias to 50/50 IIRC. There's a separate way of disabling the ABS, PM Tom as he's done it. Will need to reverse the process. That'll sort the cruise as well.
It's basically sticky vinyl. Protects the paintwork, requires removal by professionals, but thats usually included in the purchase cost. Talking 800-1000 for a decent job (ie bumpers off etc if going for whole car).
