On reading all this again, I dont think it is the speedo cable but maybe a faulty or incorrectly adjusted throttle potentiometer.

Looks like I need a new speedo cable, hope it will fix it! Where the best (i.e.cheapest) place to get one from?

This is me just being thick and knowing nothing about cars but how will a speedo cable affect the engine, I thought it was just connected to the speedo & gearbox!

Ive got the same sounding problem on my valver too, Ive replaced the Coolent Temp. Sensor & cleaned the ISCV but has made no difference

Whenever I start it, when it is cold, it tries idling at about 5-600RPM then picks up to over 1000RPM before dropping again. A few times its also idled (when warm) at about 1400RPM! This doesnt last for long and has only happened about 3 times in the last 3months, whereas the idle problem is...

Personally I think the Alpine CDA-7893R is a better H/U, but the Kenwoods pretty good too. To use the MP3 player you just put MP3s straight onto a cd-r (you can fit around 200 songs on 1 cd) and just play it like a normal cd.
