reliability generally they are good, pretty much on par with what your used to with a 106, you get ones that are better than others, look after them and they will look after you
economy - generally they are good on fuel for what they are, watch what ur doing on a long run and it will return...
ive never played with the exhaust system on my DCi however if done correctly they sound pretty cool, different, but cool. you dont want to go loud but just slightly deeper and you get a bit more turbo noise.
go custom, find a place local to you that has a good reputation as custom places can...

my ph1 is going nuts, if you lock it it goes nuts and alarms, then sometimes it will last 2 or 3 days and then go bonkers alarming its nuts off! been fine for over a year and recently developed this.

cheers for the advice so far guys ill get onto G172 tomorrow to see about ordering a set of brembo HC's
what about the DS2500 is there anyone considerably cheaper out there for them or do they all charge roughly the same?
cheers
my 172 is needing front discs and pads, recently had fluid and lines so looking for the best setup to finish the package!
was thinking Brembo HC and DS2500 is this still the best fast road setup?
probably only do a few track days a year if im lucky so most use is fast road
and finally...
ive never had a "tuning package" done however i have done all they mods you are considering to my last 172. spent a lot gained a bit.
ive got another 172 now. will i do it all again?
yes. power figures alone make it look a waste of money, difference in drivability makes it worth while
i insured my mrs on my ph2 172 the day she passed her test at 17, she cut about in it for 4 or 5 months before we bought the 1.6 16v for her! she was fine, knew id kill her if she marked or kerbed it.
she can drive the ph1 properly too, blips on down shifts too just need to learn her heel and toe!
