your main problem as far as i can see is the PH2 dashboard is controlled by the UCH, the ph1 isnt afaik so its not transferable without doing that too!

rather than lowering springs id go for 182 hubs and dampers, then you can use either 182 springs or 2nd hand sportlines for similar money! and atleast it will handle and you can use 172/182...
uprating the speakers will only make it worse as more powerful ones will distort at a lower level. its the head unit thats your problem it doesnt have the power to drive the speakers at higher volumes.

no doubt some ned will want a set of big wheels for their car, probably punt them on for £150 if they have tread on them, and get yourself a decent set of standard OZ F1 Cup's as fitted to MK1 172's which will make it look 10x better and handle much better, thats before we get to the advantage...

the most mechanical thing i had ever done to a car before i fitted my 182 manifold was changed a wheel. its a pain and a bit niggly but its by no means hard, and i could do one now in about 3-4hours max.
