yea, the ph1 172 has shocking casting tbh, you can take atleast 2mm off the ports to even match the gasket,the ph2 172 is better, but not by much, stevo's still took alot of porting!
right, just been cutting most of the loom out and i think ive finally nailed this immobiliser decoder, Ive traced 3 wires, 1 negative, 1 redwire then goes to a 5amp fuse in the fuse box then one goes into the UCH, now, if i cut it at each end of the uch, would it work still or does it need the...
IMO buy a recon'd one. look at how long your one lasted, and its effectively a new box, so its good for usually around 100k if treated reasonably well!

I Did my own on my 172,noticeable difference and Markcup who didnt have one fitted, but had a GroupN ecu, all our other mods were matched:
IK, Aftermerket exhaust and I was keeping with him on a standard ecu. I then had a play against Rob669, who had a ph1 172, same as mine, but with a panel...
just one, i still need to adjust mine, locks up a treat when braking hard for roundabouts/corners which can make it quite a handful going in to the roundabout catching the rear when its going the wrong way for the roundabout!
any car benefits from a live remap,as it no car is the same, so he cant say that the remap will be spot on. There will also be glitches and spikes in the original map and even the generic map he put on yours, it will need a live remap to get those ironed out and it'll be a massive difference.

Ive decided to keep the 172 dash, and just cut out all the wiper/light wiring etc that isint needed so all im running on the 172 loom is the engine, dash and immob.

Those rear 1/4 windows are fooking hard to smash. i hit mine 3 times with a breakerbar before it smashed, it just flexes and bounces off!

That will help when it comes to doing the wiring on the valver, have you found anything on the pin data on the 172, ive got part numbers of the ecu if you need it

Ah i see, well the 16v ecu immobiliser is deactivated by the plip of the key, the 172 one as you say is read by the decoder ring, i want to know what wires from the ecu read the decoder ring so i can get rid of the uch, I havent looked into the wiring side on the valver yet but it doesnt seem to...
