I didn't want a Clio I was going to chop my Pug 106 1.1L for a Civic Type-R or a Cooper S! Stumbled accross a 172 while going to see one and just loved the 172 after that.
Was looking at 5 year old cars with my original 10 grand budget and realised I could get a similar age Clio a lot...
I prefer the 1*2 mainly due to its looks, the 197 just looks a bit bulky/heavy to me. The perfect package for me would be a mixture of the two. I'd take the looks of the 1*8 and its better standard features, and add to it the 197's engine, brembo brakes, rear diffuser, recaro seats and steering...
Had it done many miles since the last belt change? Glad I got my belts and pulleys done a few months back after seeing that.
