1.6 16v lightned and ballanced bottom end, cams, headwork, exhaust manifold, decat etc
before it starts, this isnt a 172 vs 1.6 conversion question, and i already know all the details and would rather not hear them again!
i was like that too, 6 months ago the most work i had done was change a wheel lol got fed up paying people to fit parts and fix my car and relying on people so i got a haynes manual and 6 months later ive just dropped my engine down, changed the gearbox and bolted it all back together.
i had...
for my engine i got quoted £900 for a full standard rebuild,
£1800 for full rebuild with lightned and ballanced bottom end, stage3 headwork, reprofiled cam and remap
probably best to save money, spend £30-£35 on some good tools and do it yourself, very straight forward, rear takes 10 mins if your just changing springs and front say an hour to an hour if its your first time
this way, if you decide to change the dampers in the future you can save money and...
ah right so i can use my brand new driveshaft too.
what box would you recommend for the 1.6 16v fred, suppose i could use the 1.2 box untill it goes (if it goes!) but whats your thoughts?
got a couple of questions on the gearboxes for the above engines.
firstly before i go anywhere can both gearboxes be used on both engines? (eg. can you use a 1.2 box on a 1.6 or the other way about?)
secondly if the answer to the above question is yes, can the 1.2 16v box handle the...
id miss the extra torque that the 1.6 16v has over the 1.4 16v.
the 1.6 16v is more a nippy low down power engine rather than a screaming high reving engine id say, but nothing that cant be sorted with a few mods.
were putting a 1.6 16v in mine Summer 2007 with headwork, cams, s/s exhaust...
after being in a couple of 172s and 182s i wouldnt swap my 1.2 for one as i dont consider it the better car, only faster. maby if i was in a heavily modified one like my 1.2 16v then i might change my mind but none of them gripped, stopped, or felt as planted as mine does.
the standard ride...
saw a 172 cup near stirling services on sunday night you were waiting to come onto the roundabout as i was going round it, was a nice shiney blue one, anyone from here!?
nice mate, tho dont put turinis on it, everyones got them or had them! even myself lol
190bhp from just a remap? doubt it more likely 180-182bhp (since it likely wont have had the "standard" 180bhp anyway to start with
still not got one car finished and you buy another?! nutter hehe
hows the turbo coming on and whats planned for the track car? another turbo, 2.0 16v or just a 1.8 16v?
i thought the orange ones went well with the colour but still looks a bit to orange with them i think smoked or clear would be nice, ive got smoked ones on mine but just lightly smoked so dont look black, looked kinda clear untill i saw them against my old ones!
very very nice, one of my favourite on here, deffo be the best ph1 on here with a few mods....
172/S front headlights
Front fogs (with colourcoded surrounds)
colourcoded wing mirrors
ph2 front splitter
bit of tyre dressing on tyres and front splitter
Colour coded dynamique spoiler
some very very nice examples here.
bmh01, the gearknob came from ebay and handbrake button came from giles from here.
middo, cheers for the comments it'll be up there with the best of them this summer likely going -85mm ok konigsports and still in 2 minds about 1600 16v power (this isnt...
anyone fancy selling theres? cant find one anywhere so having to keep putting money into sorting my 1.2 as im not buying a new 1.2.
would consider the "right" 1.6 16v tho if it came up!
im £1,100 a year with Direct Line on my own policy on my 1.2 16v with my mum as a second driver.
im 17 with 8 months driving experiance, with pass plus, this saved me 25%
if you do decide to do it, atleast paint it a genuine colour if want a replica as ford ST orange wouldnt be a replica would it?...
but as most have said its not worth it but it can be done
ll nothing like bringing a thread back from the dead, mine doesnt have that bar anymore looked useless and was quite heavy so i took it out lol bolted the bolts back in very tight and it still leaks so not sure where else it could come from?
hehehe how cool is that focus!!!! looks mean as fook
your car looks awesome tho mate, why didnt mine look that good side on when i was -60mm on they wheels?! lol
