nah they are already on the car mate, the hi specs fitted them too so I bought some bogo brembo ones 18 months or so ago so no danger

remove the calipers for a clutch change, and the coolant system?? really that little space in there compared to the mk1? mk1 I literally just drop the frame, hang it off the exhaust, shafts out and whip box into the wheel arch with everything else still on.

I've done loads on the mk1's so guessing same principle, lower frame and drop box onto it and slide out into wheel arch to get clearance?
when you say they are failing, what do you mean, the rubber is splitting or the CV joint collapsing even with rubber in tact
if its just the rubber I'd say its the 3rd party shaft (cheap rubbers), and buy a proper one from Renault or a used one you know is good.
if its the CV shitting itself...

people on here just drive down the price of these cars and parts as they are all cheapskates (they learn that from me ;) )
same things happened to the mk1 scene about 5 years ago, no its dead :(
sounds like a tensioner issue on the aux belt system, if theres insufficient tension on the belt then it'll slip, stop turning the alternator and pas pulleys properly and lead to less steering assistance and the alternator output dropping
get it checked by a pro asap as if the aux system lets...
my experience with JC5 boxes hasn't been great under boost, mine runs about 270lb/ft and I've been through 13 gearboxes of various guises (laguna, megane, clio, R19) all JC5 and all lasted around 1k miles each
