disconnect the battery, pull the black cover off the back of the alternator and then you can get two spanners on it to crack the nut off. you'll need a terminal crimping on though, don't just wrap it round.
wouldn't touch biggred stuff, seen some bits fail in pretty much no time.

never seen one anywhere near that bad, got one in each of my cars and negligible rattle from them. even in rally car with solid mounts minimal rattle.
no one has ever complained about rattle on any i've fitted either.
I've got a cheap aftermarket cat that I use for mot's and never had a problem with it.
Still say the issue is them not taking the time to do thefast idle test.
could try filling the lower linkage? solid bar shouldn't be as bad?
got to admit though never come across one that rattles enough to need anything doing about it.
