Right. Been asked to bump this thread!
Myself, G4Z and Gally are collecting this car on friday and this issue kinda needs to be resolved prior to us arriving!
Has anyone got any ideas? Fuel pump is working fine, engine is turning over strongly but wont fire :S
G4Z plans to take a spare TDC...
The difference between unleaded and v-power is 7p at anyone time.
So a full tank between the two will be the difference of like £4, i dont know why everyone doesnt just use premium unleaded fuels:o
Think there all the same, my 8 year old Phase 1 is rough from cold also.
What fuel are you running it on? I find V power makes mine run a little smoother
I wouldn't want to be able to do 140+ in a Clio.
A blow-out at anything above 100 would result in a messy end I would think.
I'd rather quicker acceleration than top-end speed imo
Taken from another thread.. (Its G4Z's car btw :rasp:)
Just to confirm, 5 of the 16 hydrualic lifters are goosed, Was quite suprised to see that the cylinder head, cams, tappets, belt, tensioner, pulleys and head bolts were all brand new! Had just been serviced too as the oil was golden brown...

Me neither mate, it is kind of blind guess work at the moment until we can source what the problem is. Also we slipped the cambelt off and took the cam-shafts out to get into the lifters. It seems it might be oil related according to Gaz's cousin John who knows them inside out as he used to work...
Residual values on 172's arent somthing to consider, there over the hill as far as depreciation goes.
For your budget id get a tidy phase 1. So long as its been cherished itll run until the cows come home. The important thing as said, is the belts should have been done on ALL 172's now as...
Aye its a bit of a mare as it stands, if its just the lifters we have won a watch as all itll require is a new oil pump and just build it back up. But, seeing as we stripped the top off we aswell to check for damage to the cylinders because if we build it back up and turns out to be somthing...
Welcome mate. I dont understand what the issue with gear change is?
Drive it like any other once shes warm (this is very important, Renault Sport Engines are dog rough from cold)
