I think it means no matter what option you pick, from an Apple store, you're paying £499. Contracts have to come from elsewhere.

You can't swap them round, because once it's activated for the iPad, it's not going to work in an iPhone. But I think from the start, it will be fine. It's only branded as iPad as they couldn't acknowledge the existence of the iPhone4.

Plug it into your new computer. Set it up with that. Let it back up etc etc. Carry on using it. When the 4 arrives. Plug your current one in. Back it up. Plug in iPhone 4. It will ask you if you want to set it up as a new phone or restore from backup, you just press restore. Simples.

Nobody knows what next years will be. You're basing it on a time when Apple had very little competition. Android is now a big competitor. To say it will simply be a 3GS type upgrade is naive.
