I know you don't want to hear it but the best mod I ever done was fitting coilovers. Have a look in my project thread and on the first page you can see the improvements they made around track!

I had this problem after I got my Mk1 conversion back from GDI, couldn't work out what the problem was. Open the oil filler cap and try turning it over and see if the cams ares turning. If not, your cambelt has snapped!

£3.5k plus the VAT I think there are 3 different turbo conversions so can't comment on prices. The cars not meant to look pretty, it does the job its meant too. But I've another set ready to go black again and these will be trak only wheels with new legislation of semi slicks coming in
