its about bedding the valves in, you are actually wearing down the parts to fit properly.
Remember your bedding in the brakes and other parts aswell not just the engine.
The good thing is people have pretty much had all the problem so we know how to resolve most of em.. its not just a clio thing .. its a car thing and happens to even the most expensive of cars.. just look at BMWs record with the mini, the difference lies in how the dealers deal with them.
Okay im gonna chage the title of the FAO 172 owners to FAO Mk2 Clio owners, appologies for excluding other mk2 owners we thought it only affected the 172/Cups.
The viper seems to be a popular filter, although a lot of people have found just a replacement panel filter to work well aswell, as the airbox renault uses appears to be very good.
the banging during hard accell/wheelspin is what we are talking about. :D so you do have it too.
Okay the title of this thread has changed as it now seems to be a problem on all models of Mk2 Clio from the 1.2 upwards.
so it affects 1.6s aswell, put your name down in the list then.. see the sticky FAO 172 owners in clio discussion.
TBH im sure it affects all mk2 phase 2 clios.. regardless of whether its a 1.2 or 172, but I dont know if the 1.2 has the power to make the wheels bounce like in the 172s. Not a...
I average about 28-30mpg, but do a lot of short journeys..
Highest sustanable MPG ive had (cruising at about 55mph on a flat road after a reset and waiting for it to settle down after the initial jump) was about 55MPG which is just crazy for a 2.0l engine.
basically get whats recommended for your car or above, it doesnt matter if you have a higher rated tyre that whats recommended, but it does if its below the recommended rating.
Okay, if/when we get a lot of people and we can prepare a professional looking letter (spellchecked and everything ;)) we should be able to send this as a club letter, which should hold more weight.
Basically the point of this exercise is just to get renault to admit that there is a problem...
An interesting thing to add to a letter/e-mail would be that we get a lot of new people comming throught this site asking about the problem.
At present we have tried to help them with it, but if no resolution is made we will have no option but to recommend they reject the car. Maybe something...
Could just start a pinned thread in clio discussion, and I could speak to Jas about a club e-mail sent to all members asking them to post a message or something if it affected them.
why not send one e-mail or one letter with the details/numbers of all the members with this problem (pretty much all) and if no sensible soloution is worked out by renault custumer services then we can just start flooding their inbox with an e-mail template or a letter template which different...
If we could get a substantial list of names/numbers then I think it would be worthwhile. And we know this isnt the first time renault will have heard about this.
Seems to be on every 172 and Cup leaving the factory.. renault must know about this already, just not interested in fixing it.. too costly or something.
Sounds like it is going into test mode, you arent hitting the trip computer button when turning the key are you ? that puts it into test mode.. beeping and the needles will move every second or so up and down.
So whats the fix, I took mine into renault as was basically told to stop accelerating hard.. hah.. made me laugh.. like I bought a 172 to tootle about.
I did the exact same to my lower bumper, didnt crack it or anything, reno smoothed the scraches and resprayed for £50 but they were doing other spray work on my car under warranty as as such only charged for labour.
Done a superb job too, could never tell anything was ever scratched.
Dunno, my 172 is standard and I still have to watch for kerbs when parking up in my work.. already had to pay to have the lower bumper bit resprayed after scratching it on a kerb.
Ye dont be a muppet..people who put there fogs on when its not foggy are idiots. and im afraid to say I see a lot of lower model clios doing this.. I think they think it makes there car look more expensive or "cooler".. in reality it just makes everyone hate them.
I have only ever switched my...
