Yours will have a chipped key so it doesnt matter if there is a bettery in the key fob. Have you tried/do you own a spare key? is the red led on the speedo flashing when it wont start?

Check the connection (big eyelet) on the actual alternator. Very common to break. Alternator is earthed through the block so if it cranks it will be ok

They did update the regulation last year i think due to the shape of widscreens on some modern cars. Having a set measurement is not a one size fits all solution. Ive seen a picture im sure of it
