    Advice - accident in 2021

Is it just the time delay that’s worrying you? Pretty standard to be asked to give a witness statement if the third party insurer has gone legal on it. What’s sketchy looking about the disclaimer?

Single best thing I’ve added to my rig recently was digging an old portable air conditioner out of a cupboard 😂 It’s in a small room that gets sun almost all day, and a 42” OLED plus the Xbox chucks out a s**t-ton of heat. Still uhming and ahhing over what wheel upgrade to go for. I’m not...

Oh look - if your share price shoots up because you talk about a thing, but don't actually make money doing a thing, then sooner or later the bubble bursts. Who knew. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c5ykkryglp3t?post=asset%3A3c675575-5218-4bb9-87ad-f9f447be6253#post

I…. Um…… I‘m a bit bereft of toys at the moment but tend to have an old rackmount server or some sort of other gadget on the go, just to tinker with.

Starlink is a good shout, if expensive. I've been using this for my home internet connection for the last year, can't fault it, 4k streaming, work meetings, all good. Way faster than the poxy fixed line broadband I can get here. I do have a strong 4G signal with EE though. It takes an external...

I saw this over in the funny pictures thread and it got me thinking So, I’m a 30 year time served veteran in customer support/success, my job title is architect, I work in financial reconciliation with some of the biggest banks and institutions in the world. I have never, ever done an IT...

At our place we couldn't sell our cloud SaaS solution for years, almost everyone wanted on-prem. Suddenly it was like someone threw a switch and now all we can sell is SaaS. Same product, same solution, we've gone from six cloud customers two years ago to over twenty. It is literally just that...

Cloud is amazing, with the right use case. You want to scale on a whim, with workload, and might have to deal with some massive peaks from time to time? f**king excellent, fill your boots. Just dumping a VM from an in-house server to a cloud server, "because cloud" and you want to fire your IT...

Bloody hell. I almost placed an order with them last week, but all of the DD wheel bases were out of stock which seemed odd. I guess that's why.

They must be shifting stock now the new one's out. Bloody hell that's tempting though, I know it has an issue with frying SD cards but still.

Many people at Crowdstrike got that creeping ice water down the spine sensation really badly last night as the true horror of the issue dawned. Can you imagine the shitstorm!

I think it depends how sensitive you to are to the changes in the image, some people seem to “see” it much more than others.

You are absolutely right, and there’s nothing racist about it IMO. Some contractors from India who I’ve worked with in the past have been absolutely top notch, the equal of anyone. People pulled in to do lower end jobs can often have that awful culture of dishonesty through omission and never...

I’m hoping for the best, but planning for the worst. If they come out and say they will be offshoring shared functions and first/second line support over time then I would respect that. If they don’t say that, then they’re most likely liars and I’m going to take my time to find something else...

The 'I work in I.T' thread

We have just been bought by a big private equity firm who have their own dedicated offshore unit in India. As expected it’s all very “don’t spook the staff” at the moment but big cuts are inevitable, it’s what I’d do in their shoes. Will be surprised if I still have a job in 12 months, but meh...

Pretty clean MoT history too. Price is probably too low, automatically makes me suspicious it's a turd, but if it was local it would absolutely be worth a look.

    How much extra BHP ?

Maybe the old one had collapsed baffles or something, if it was really restricted for some reason then replacing it would make quite a big difference.

I would be honestly amazed if you didn't have some sort of cooler. I can't think of a desktop CPU in the last decade which didn't need some sort of additional cooling, even if it's just a passive heatsink.

Many moons ago I worked for a company called Kerridge Commercial Systems, that sort of stuff was their core business although it was becoming part of a much bigger ERP product. They’re still going, and the software was solid, so might be worth a look to see if they still offer anything along...

Yeah, it didn't go very well. Sat at £810 for days and was expecting it to move at least a bit but hey ho, that's ebay. Someone got a bargain. Honestly it being gone is a win, it's just cluttering up the place now. Buyer says they're coming tomorrow to collect so hopefully it happens. Still a...

Brilliant conversation with my wife. It’s technically her car, so turns out she was looking forward to getting the money for it. I said that’s completely fine, as long as she buys herself her next car when the time comes that she can drive again. No? No. Didn’t think so 😂
