Restoring Little Bluey - my 182 FF ClioSport in Racing Blue

Did a little bit on the old girl on Saturday. I got this bonnet catch off a lad when I was picking up some bits and pieces. I saw it in his bin and noticed it was a genuine Renault part, so needed saving. My old catch had a problem with the spring, so I'd replaced it with an aftermarket...

    New Clio 182 Track Project

Time to start updating this thread now I know what I'm doing going forward. Currently, the car has a single custom one-piece exhaust. From what I can gather, 108 decibels is the acceptable noise level for hill climbing regs and while it sounds like a roaring beast on the road, I'm concerned it...

    ‘Bonnie Blue’ The RB 182

It'll look HELish though when it's done :)

    Penny washers will sort that.

I have a feeling this one's going to be a minter. Great to see.

    Seized aux belt tensioner?

It was early hours, I needed a wee and I'm old. I imagine if yours is seized, then that'll be why it was sold. Stick a new one on. Less risky.

    Seized aux belt tensioner?

Throw my reply in the bin then 😂

    Seized aux belt tensioner?

I’m 99.9% sure that bush is meant to be tight in the body of the tensioner. The circlip is there to hold it in place. To facilitate belt removal with the tensioner tool, it must be able to move and pivot as needed. So it’s fixed in with a partially threaded bolt - see picture below. I can...

    Mk3 197 steering column into a mk2 182 ???

Cool. Cadwell is the perfect test. If you get time, could you ping me over a list of parts if you don’t mind? 😊 No rush. I’m at Croft in March for my new cars first outing. But I’m sure I’ll be making some modifications over the new season

    ‘Bonnie Blue’ The RB 182

    Mk3 197 steering column into a mk2 182 ???

Have you been out on circuit yet? I converted to EPAS on my last 182 circuit car, but suffered the usual power drop-outs.

Restoring Little Bluey - my 182 FF ClioSport in Racing Blue

Well, the car's been going great. I did a few more miles back and forth to work but have now decided it’s time to move on. She’s currently in storage, and I’m going to fit the last few remaining genuine parts to the car and give her a proper detail inside and out before listing it for sale in...

    ‘Bonnie Blue’ The RB 182

Yeah, old cars I’m afraid. But it’s better than winging it in a polished turd. 😂

Supertech valves, springs and stemseals needed?

I had mine done a few years back and I just supplied them with the valves. https://www.pure-motorsport.co.uk/clio-2-3-meg-2-supertech-uprated-valve-set.html

    Algecan's 172 Cup ZLN

Yeah but it’s proper messy stuff and goes everywhere. Perfect for places like inside the rear quarters where the corrosion has eaten into the seam. Or inside the sills, rear beam or pretty much anywhere where water, dirt and salt will collect. It displaces water. It doesn’t like UV light, hence...

    Algecan's 172 Cup ZLN

That's not too bad and at least you've started fighting back. It'll eventually beat you of course, but there are plenty of places that will cut out the old rot and refabricate new sections. S50 wax oil by bilt hamber is also very good as it creeps inside the places you can't reach and has...

Track tyres - how much life left

Yes, and they're quite a hard compound. I'd put in a fair few laps and get some heat in them before attempting a hot lap to be honest. Used in the fun cup. I used to get them from Track Torque Racing in Tockwith, but it's been a while.

Advice - Looking to buy a RB 182

Sounds good. Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. TIP. If you remove any original parts, don't throw them in the skip.

Congrats. It looked like a nice car. Any plans for it?

    Anyone recognizes this connector?

That is the male connector. The female connector will no doubt be connected to an old steering wheel if you can pick one of those up. The part number is 7700432801.

Rear discs for a track day car?

A bargain. SNR make the bearings for Renault so probably the same.

Rear discs for a track day car?

Yep. Used by many dedicated track cars and novice championships inc 750mc, TDT, TDC etc…

    ‘Bonnie Blue’ The RB 182

Mine and the gasket which I bought off K-Tec. It’s the only one that’ll get a decent seal on PMS exhausts.

    ‘Bonnie Blue’ The RB 182

If it’s any consolation my RB still gives me a whiff of exhaust first thing and that has a brand new flange, exhaust, cat, gaskets and been fitted by a professional exhaust centre. There’s very little insulation under that gear shift gaiter. Door seals have seen better days etc…so I’m sure it’s...

    Monaco 172 Track Car

I insured my RB with them when I lightly modified it last year. They told me the more modified the car, the cheaper it would be. When I bought that 182 hill climber last year and put the RB back to stock, the price almost doubled when I went to switch the policy. £660 for an old geezer who’s...
