The "resistance" to the throttle it isn't a problem, it's the engine's ECU compensating for the lower temperature at start up.
Mine has done it from new and for all of its 93,000 miles - it is standard practice for a 172/182 to do this.
Also the engine will gently increase and then drop the...
I was really impressed with the R27 I took around Brands.
At pace everything made sense, the steering weighted up, and feedback was more than adequate - enough so that in the pouring rain I reckon I was 2-3 seconds a lap quicker than I was in my Cup.
Very confidence inspiring.
I the dry it...
Conversations with my sister and a mate; both times went like this (talking about football)...
Me: "You should see the difference watching it on Sky Sports HD instead of normal SD - it's amazing".
Them: "What do you mean Sky Sports HD?"
Me: "I mean the Sky Sports HD channel on our Sky HD...
I'm sure there's the possibility of getting close to it Paul, however, the bottom line is the only reason we change down a gear is to make sure you've got the right ratio for when you need to accelerate again.
Brakes (not gears) are for decceleration, and to maximise that you need to make the...
In my opinion that could go either way with regard to blame.
Technically, the fact that you are indicating means nothing other than you signalling your intention.
Indicating doesn't mean you can then carry out a manouvere without taking further observation - it's just you saying "see this...
When he was competing Jackie Stewart stated once that the reason he was so much quicker than anyone else was because he was smoother coming off the brakes meaning he was more balanced as he entered turns.
More balance equals more grip equals higher exit speeds equals higher speeds down the...
Yep, that's the one.
The YouTube clip shows still photographs of the aftermarth, but there's a link in the description to a Russian website where the video clip is hosted.
Not graphic, but still quite disturbing.
Great thread...with a lot of misinformed opinions!
Fast eddie - very good explanation :)
Double (de) clutching does have a place in my opinion as whenever I do it, it is noticeable that the next gear engages much more smoothly, it just slips in so easily.
Having said that, it takes (for me...
If it's grinding it sounds like you're braking on the backing plates which is likely to mean you have no brakes at all, and are screwing your discs too.
I'd recommend the next time you drive it, you take it straight to somewhere where they can make your car safe again.
That happened to me in my 3rd month of ownership...

Never since though. When it happened to me it was from a cold start and I was booting it a bit (it was still almost brand new) - and I ran out about 15 miles later.
Me too.
I've run other branded but similar track tyres in the pouring rain and just damp conditions.
In the rain, they're death-traps, and in the damp, you have to continually work them hard to keep the temperatures up. Even then, they're nowhere near as forgiving as road tyres once you...
He'd have been f***ed if he did put it sideways driving with his hands on the wheel like that.
That wasn't close. In 'on-track' terms, the Clio annihilated them both.
I'm an accountant and a tight b*****d. It's not about performance. I'm doing this so I get more mpg and the brakes and tyres last longer ;)
Shut it wee lad.
Excellent!
Mine's due an update - I had almost half an interior in here + an empty babyseat when I did this one...

I'll stick the Yokos on, get them warm and give it a bash ;)
It's not worth 6k, it's worth about 4k - if that.
Why do it? Why not?
I've had it since new, and it's covered over 93,000 miles. Time for it to retire from the daily grind to a life of continual track/sprint abuse, and ultimately...it's going racing
Really?
Paradas look like a heavily road biased tyre. Never run them myself but they must be ultra soft to compensate for smaller relative contact patch?
It's a tractor LOL - coilovers all in due course. Want to run it like this for a while and see what else I can gain from weight removal - seats next.
Haircut tonight - long overdue, I can really notice how it blunts the acceleration and pick-up.
He didn't take any off Jon - should there...
Mine pulls well at tickover. In slow creeping traffic I can get into 3rd gear without touching the throttle. But then mine does weigh a bit less than normal.
