I think the 197's a great car, refined, well screwed together, sure-footed.
But, I think a hot-hatch should be a hooligan, that's the point. Big engine, little car.
My 172 cup is a hooligan.
The 197 isn't in my opinion.
I think posting pictures like that is a good idea. It serves to remind everyone that there are dangers involved, and no matter how well prepared you think you are, there's always a risk that you'll stack it.
Nicely done :D
You'll get a wide variety of opinions on here...
Personally, I think your first priority it to get braided lines, that should firm up the pedal. I know your looking for something more serious but decent discs and pads, and a set of wheels that let your brakes breathe properly...
Not a Clio (obviously), this thing was mental.
It went from 160bhp at about 4,000 rpm, to 480bhp at 5,000 rpm - you can see how violently it spools up from the graph at the end of the clip...I can't even begin to imagine what that must feel like on the road :D
Enjoy
Difficult to say Chris...at Janspeed I only got an "at the wheels" figure - which was 146 IIRC.
A month ago at Surrey Rolling Road I ran 179 at the fly, which was 149 at the wheels I think.
Today I only got a fly figure, and that was 170.
Relative to everyone else, it's still doing what it...
Look good Saner.
Trying to pull mine off now - left my sync cable at work so having to e-mail them all from phone to PC...taking ages :(
Video clips of the 525bhp Skyline on the rollers came out well though ;)
Knowing what 1*2 engines come off the line like, I'd have thought automated process would have meant wide variations in power...or were they finished by hand?
Off topic slightly...is balancing a worthwhile effort Ben?
On something with 80k that might need some TLC?
Race engine, 280bhp, 3 litres, 93bhp/litre?
Not much is it?
There's a few NA road cars with higher relative (or is it specific?) outputs than that's got.
I didn't mean it to sound like he caused it Ang...but I don't doubt that we was the main contibuting factor.
Come to think of it, if you had pulled out, there probably wouldn't have been an accident, as he would have seen you at the back of a stationery queue.
I'm serious, and take this as a compliment but you caused the crash without a doubt in my opinion.
Your car's racing blue right? Was it clean when it happened?
My mate's racing blue 182 looks like it has it's own powered light source such is the way it just sits there and glows.
You said...
Without question he sailed past you staring at your front calipers, probably dribbling slightly.
You say the traffic was easily visible from half aa mile away, but most people don't even spot the brake lights of the car two ahead, let alone focus 1/2 mile away.
Falkens are OK. Got some on my wife's Focus and it seems to behave alright.
A lot of the Castle Combe racers run on Falken 451's shaved down to 2-3mm, very good apparently.
