Who cares about roll so long as it still grips like a limpet and gets you round?
I like roll, it's the car talking to you, letting you know what's going on :approve:
I'd be nervous as f*** in something setup rock hard with less obvious signs of impending disaster.
Have you taken it on track yet?
Good brakes and tyres, which is what you've done, give the biggest gains for the least expense. That's all I've ever done.
Standard suspension is fine...try it as it is...if you find it lacking, change it.
To be honest I think you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between any of them.
I run that size as the rubber is cheap and plentiful...no other reason.
Had just started to spot with rain, probably why he was so cautious in his brand new Ultima.
Yep, totally 100% standard. Played with the brakes though, and I was on track rubber.
A nice bloke who mailed me a DVD of his footage, never met him before, his VTS was stripped right out
Probably...he also had a shocking lack of ability though. Three times his back end stepped out on that lap when he floored it out of the tighter turns, had no confidence at all.
I find double de-clutching helps with gear selection as the blip in neutral with the clutch engaged before each gear selection helps get all the shafts spinning at the same speeds.
The Cup is faster in a straight line above 60-70 definitely, very little in if before then.
Around corners it's simple physics, 150kgs more to haul round in a Cup than a Willy...which is why I got a good kicking at Haynes...it's all turns, 1st and 2nd gear, no straights.
Nope.
Me against Tucks in his Willy up the Airfield strip several times over the last few years...I'd get maybe 1 or two lengths over 1/3 mile.
On track, around the Haynes Sprint track, I got my arse tanned by Mk 1's (not just Willys).
Around Brands with one decent straight thrown in, what...
Relax Roy.
You know if you get all excited and order one once the spec's finally out, that 18 months down the line you'll be pi**ed at Renault when the proper one's released.
If that's so wouldn't I hear something before leaning on and heating up the brakes?
I really would never know of/hear it unless I was pressing on...can/do wheel bearings partially fail so as not to rumble when taking things steady?
Day to day I have no problem, car stops fine, no noise or vibration, nothing untoward.
When making progress though, after one or two heavy brake applications, I get a noise relative to road speed, a knocking that's only present when on the brakes and it gets louder the longer/harder I'm on...
Don't worry about what speed you are doing.
As Greg says above you need to focus on being smooth, planning ahead, and avoiding the need to brake.
Picture in your mind a valve in the fuel tank linked to the brake pedal which opens and lets some fuel out every time you brake. This is...
