With regards to not noticing a difference, utter tosh - unless your car was mapped by a flid that is?
They are a lot more drivable after a map, and my mpg even creaped up a little.
Check the guide in the guides section. Shows you how to turn the light of perminently using a set of resistors.
But yeh, if you play with the wires under your seat it should turn its self off.

Thought i'd give my un expert opinion on this.

How hard is it to replace the fuel line? It splits in half at the cat so
Only need to know how to take it off/ put it on the fuel tank. It's the green line
