Sounds like the 2nd gear syncro is worn/wearing, expensive problem. Is probably cheaper to get a new gearbox than to fit new syncros unless you can do it yourself and then its a gearbox to complete pieces job, not very nice.

Yep you should have a plastic tool that fits the anti theft bolt on the cap. I didn't get one with my current clio but had one with the previous one was under the plastic former in the locking nut box, just went back to the dealers and explained and they gave me one.

Yeh the climate control temp sensor fan does tend to knacker its bearings and squeel, but surely it wouldn't be speed dependant if it were that ?

Believe it needs significant modification to fit, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

He's sold it now for a TT though.
