Maybe you never heard it before in your 182 cos you always had your radio on , bet you had no radio on for your test drive ? Just a thought . I can hear mine whine , always have been able to since new , same with my 172 , not loud but i can hear it . It's a pump afterall , pumps make noises .

Bought my 182 new , drove it home , first thing i did was put a 10mm cable tie round each CV joint boot clip because of the common problem that they do snap eventually . That was 5 years ago , cable tie and clips still intact :rasp:
