the cat on Mk1 172's like ours is a massive double barrelled effort. you can replace the centre section as a seperate item and the same with the rear section. Unless it is the original system, as this comes in one complete section. If this is the case, get a new uprated custom system from...

the bits you sit on just clip out. 2x torx 40 to hold the black metal thing in. 1x torx 40 or 20mm socket that hold the rear bench in the middle. then just pull the seats out from either side from their plastic seatings. 5 min job.

yeah, magnex are pretty quiet but the quality is questionable sometimes and they never give gains on the standard cat. If i were you i'd get a custom system with removable decat (for MOT time) and have it made to your spec. A free flow filter of some sort would be a good bonus too. ITG make...

get some Brembo 'grp N' discs and pagid fast road pads. apart from a little squeeking when they are cold, it's a good set up for the car.

driveshaft or wheel bearing it sounds like. definately not a mount if it's grinding noises you're hearing. like a dull rumbling noise is it?

Jesus! Just get a socket and ratchet and get under the car and turn the crank by hand, even moving it forward and backward is enough! Then get someone to take the oil filler cap off and see if you can see any cam lobes moving about. If the cams are static, get your wallet out. job done.

That is Platinum Silver. 172's like mine came in Titanium 647. And then later on Iceburg Silver.

Nice car there!...best colour too. Looks dead tidy, i'm doubtful of the power figure. i may be proven wrong though ;) Here's my Mk1 172 to give you a few ideas. Mk2 lights, bumper and sidestrips. :) If you need any advice or anything give me a pm.
