Police don't care about you having no tax, as long as yout are insured and MOT'd you'll be fine.
If you were unlucky enough to get pulled the most they would do is report it to DVLA, but i'm asuming you plan on taxing it sometime soon so that won't be an issue.
I'm not sure anyone has suggested fitting a used 'box have they? Plenty of new old stock ones available. The eBay link provided by someone is for a new TL4 024 gearbox with 12 month warranty from RCS. If Renault won't budge then this would still be my route to a fix.
Im happy enough with the power, just pissed it was 12bhp down on Lewis to be honest. I think it's partly old plugs and a very dirty pipercross panel filter that I've never cleaned! 181bhp is fine for now, no point chasing figures in a n/a clio I suppose!
Nice to meet you all today guys! Thanks for arranging Thomas. Disappointed with my result so I'll be back there in a few weeks I think once I've made some tweeks
Why on earth would you do that? If it's still over a grand you should have got it done elsewhere. £350 for a new box with warranty then a couple of hundred to get it fitted! £600 max I'd have thought and nothing in Renaults pocket!
if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
A head gasket isn't a service item, so only normally changed if it fails.
Your thread is a bit vague, what engine is it and why do you think it needs changing?
How many cars have we actually got that are running, it can't really tell from the thread! Also, how long does it take per car?
Just trying to work out what time this will run on until that's all. My brother wants to come down but it working until lunch.

Not according to the 'what's done when' guide here http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?107873-All-about-servicing-rules-time-whats-done-etc-(172-182)
Cambelt is 72k or 5 years, so it should definitely have been done by now. 100k is nothing these days on most cars. Keep on top of the maintenance and like most cars it will go on for double that.
Still Cat D though.... so only ever going to be worth 70% of a non cat d. Ok if you plan on keeping it forever but not if you plan on selling it on. I'd rather be spending £6k on a decent, non damaged lower mileage car personally
