If it won't start, it isn't ticking over. Ticking over is a term normally used when an engine has started and is idling.
I presume you mean the engine TURNS over (as in the starter motor kicks in and spins the engine) but the engine fails to start?
I think it's great value. What's up with the spec? Cup pack, climate control, projectors. Ok it's not got Recaros but they aren't for everyone.
I agree teh advert is terrible though!
They were never meant to make 197bhp, it's 197 ps so roughly 194bhp. To be honest though, they rarely make above 180-185 in standard form. Definately get yourself over to clio197.net. There are megane conversions, supercharged ones, and some tuned N/A ones. 220ish seems to be the limit for NA...
Not going to be cheaper no, but if you are intending on getting coilovers anyway then yes, it'll save you £120 if you go straight to the coilies instead of buying std now, they coilies in a few weeks.
No idea if it's the correct part (didn't look) however the current discount codes are on there homepage

Mate of mine had a g60 running over 180 -200bhp without any issues. I think it's the same with most cars, sometimes you get a good 'un sometimes not so good.
Nope, 16v wouldn't really work (6 cylinder, so would be an odd number of valves!)
2 valves per cylinder, isn't really a proper V6 either. It's only a 15degree 'V' and shared a common head.
Nope, not 1.8. They definately did a 2.0 16v mate.
1.8 16v (KR)
1.8 8v supercharged (the g60)
2.0 16v (9A I believe)
2.0 8v (Don't even bother, it's quicker walking)
2.9 12v (vr6)
The Corrado is an entirely different beast! I've had one of those too (2.0 16v not VR6) I loved my Corrado, out of the box it was great and with some FK automotive coilovers it was awesome.
Here's my old Golf
And here's my old Corrado
I've had a VR6, but never a 172.
The VR6 isn't a great car at all. It makes a fantastic noise, but 174bhp from a 2.8 just ins't acceptable! Also, in standard form the handling isn't all that good.
I'd steer clear personally, get a 172 and have some fun!
My GTi-6 was done by them (before I bought it, i'm not that stupid). I had exactly the same issue, very juddery pulling off. I took it to them to sort out as it was still under warrenty. They changed it again, it was juddering again a week later. I decided to do it myself the second time.

Yeah but there were only ever 70 UR R27's, what's the chances of 2 ending up within a couple of miles of each other.
I'm gonna trash it, get the thing written off! :p
My god, I can't believe how much insurance has increased in the 12 years i've been driving.
I've never paid more than about £800 per year for insurance, and that was when I was 20 driving a golf VR6. At 21 I had a Punto GT with lots of mods (all declared) and was paying sub £400 per year!
So...
If you don't know what it has had previously, id be looking at doing the following
Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Pollen/Cabin Filter
Plugs
It depends what you have history for really, but fo the sake of a few quid i'd rather 'over-do' it than risk it not being tip-top
