I've not read the entire thread because I don't have any time at the moment. Sounds awful though, nothing worse than when some other tw*t on the road involves you in an accident.
Are you using an accident management company? If not I would use one. I've used Accident Exchange and they were...
He probably just means he sees no point in having one. As I can understand.
If I wanted to sacrifice the better looks of the 182 (my opinion) and get a 172, it would have to be a cup or a phase 1.
They just don't appeal to me what so ever. I think the only Ph2 172 I've seen that I like is...
If they are bolt on spacers you could go as big as you like, then just screw the studs into the spacer. Rather than screwing the stud into the hub and sliding the spacer over.

I run DS2500 on my track car and not had any problems at all. Only after good 15-20 mins do they start to feel off.
It was a road car too though when I put them in so next time I will be trying something more aggressive.
Looks lovely. THAT NOISE.. Shame about the mechatronic issue.
That's not a standard bumper is it?? If so then can't believe I've never noticed those flares before..
My set-up was far too stiff. Happy back end, so will always make a point of changing the RARB to the softest setting in future for rainy days. My tyres seemed very slippery too!
You managed a good few laps in total then. I think I did about 11.
