I did 230 on essentially a standard mk3 head and inlet manifold, so not really anlike for like comparison. It also ran the oe fbw throttle body. @green has itbs. If I’d had the mk3 head flowed fully and gone all out, I’d be on for 270+ n/a. The only way a mk2 head will flow enough air for that...
Well I could build one for less than mine cost now I imagine, but including all my time and using genuine R3 maxi stuff, I’d say £6-£7k. That’s a figure completely pulled off the top of my head though.
Too much, but I built it for myself as I fancied the challenge. I also wanted something different from the run of the mill itbs/421’s combo.
There was a lot or research and development that went into the project as well to make the build reliable.
If that’s a plate diff I’ll eat my hat. Looks like a standard diff with a bolt on plate for the drive cup. Look at the cross pin for the planet gears - yep, that’s standard Renault.
Wrap it in a f**k ton of cardboard and put softenings around the tin end cover. Go on interparcel and choose the UPS option. Weight is 36/37kg and it’ll cost you about £35 ish.
Paisley freight WILL f**k you about if it’s on a pallet. Trust me - me and @rsi_scotty have been pissed around by...
Remove the driveshaft, drain the gear oil and remove the output shaft seal. Put the new seal on and carefully tap it into place. Refit shaft, refill with oil and road test. Check for leaks - all ok? Jobs a good un. If it leaks again then you’ve potentially got something creating an issue.
Ok, little update as we have a minor spec change.
A picture speaks a thousand words:
This was needed so we can run an 8 injector setup. The omex that’s currently in the car just won’t cut the mustard, so it’s gone in the can. We will also be running a custom cam sensor to allow fully...
The catcams item has shims available in different thicknesses, so this means once the initial setup is done, you take a measurement of each one. If any adjustments are required after a season, it’s a simple case of measuring the clearance and choosing a larger shim to take up the tolerance...
And a few randoms!
Got a little bit of a step here, so I’ve scribed it’s position ready for removal and polishing.
Scribed area:
I’ll also be reinstating the relief for the injector in the spacer as we don’t want the fuel hitting the wall of the manifold.
Bring on the trumpets! 😂
The famous...
Another update folks! Been making a start on building the head, so thought I’d share a few pics with you.
Here we have the catcams valve springs, solid lifter and the shim that will need to be adjusted to get the correct clearance between the rocker and the camshaft. From cold, this engine will...
Ok so here’s mine. I had the gsi when I was 19 and almost covered 2 decades of ownership! Started life as a standard gsi and ended up as a 460hp 174mph capable gsi.
My first cup came along in 2010 as a daily driver. Had a/c too and was promptly taken to the Nurburgring as the gsi was off the...
It might polish out looking at the picture tbf, but if you can feel anything with your finger nail, it needs a regrind. Technically these cranks aren’t suitable for a regrind, but people do have them done.
