you'd have to assume (?!) that the Renault engineers did experiment with the affects of stiffer mounts but it'd still be interesting to see if they help without compromising comfort/reliability too much.
i'd have a go at uprated mounts if they were available cheaply enough - you probably...
i ordered some of these ebay ones last night - complete car set (6 bulbs) for £6 posted. they might turn out to be no good but it'll only have cost £6 to find out.
couldn't find any cheap Osrams or Silver Visions but a company called J W Racing (on ebay) were offering a pair of Silvatecs for...
problem with fitting solid mounts is that the vibration would be completely unbearable. i had GrpN mounts in a 205 too and reckon they were one of the most effective fast road/track mods i made - much sweeter gearshift and it was keener on turn in too. downside was the vibration but it's posible...
getting mine done at some point but will likely stick with the standard silver colour. anthracite would look good (and they wouldn't need cleaning as often;) ) but i'm reasoning that as soon as you kerb a coloured wheel, it'll look terrible - so i'm sticking with silver
i think there was a thread on here about this recently. basically, it's best practise to be putting the better tyre on the back as the majority of drivers will find it much easier to control understeer (which you're more likely to experience with poor tyres on the front) than oversteer (which...
safer to put the better tyres on the back (rather than the front) for most people.
how many miles have you done on the new tyres? are they definitely worn in?
must admit that i didn't fit the spacer washers (someone else did whilst a bunch of other work was done) but they were supplied by Yozza and i'm sure they would have been identical.
things is, i can't get the b'stard nut undone to have a look at what's going on. might take it round to a...
Serviced the car earlier in the week and spotted that the large 'rubber coated washer' for the n/s strut is free to spin (the one under the bonnet).
The nut doesn't want to tighten and the whole thing looks to have the same gap as the o/s assembly (which doesn't spin).
The car is fitted...
thanks for the suggestions
waiting for a call from Opie at the mo.
other main dealers are either similar money, only sell in 1 litre bottles at £10ea, or believe that Excellium has been replaced by another oil in the range (??)
White16valver - who is your dealer?
I'm after a tub of Excellium LDX 5/40 and am wondering if I can get it much cheaper than the £44 my local dealer wants.
Can anyone recommend a cheap online source or someone in my locale who might be able to help?
Thanks
haven't used them for a few years but i've always been happy with Mech Repairs.
less so Interpro and Powerstation - although i may just have been 'unlucky'!?
what about Circuit Motors up at Castle Coombe? haven't used them but might also be worth a call.
.
there may still be, but there used...
as above - prob best to find out what's up with it first. is it leaking?
genuine Renault racks are £400 and the pattern ones I've been quoted for aren't any cheaper; labour is 4 hours for a rack swap
good second hand might be the cheapest bet if it really needs a new rack
it can only be measured at the wheels on a rolling road and is 'corrected' to give an approximate flywheel figure - different machines do this differently
i'm assuming that manufacturers use engine dynos to come up with their power figures which would be another reason why they're difficult to...
do you need a complete set of all six characters or just some of them?
might be able to help depending upon what you need. wing me a PM/email if you're interested (not on here much)
they've probably all got shocking customer service if you have any problems (i've had plenty with both BT and Tiscali) but, otherwise, i've been happy with Tiscali
how long did it take you to learn Mark?
the main reason i'm reluctant myself is because i trail brake (which is fun) and am worried that it'd take me an age to learn the required sensitivity to be able to do that whilst H&T'ing
i often find myself blipping the throttle on down changes on the road - it helps the gearbox out and smoothes the drive.
haven't learnt to combine it with braking although i am thinking of having a go at learning to H&T for my track driving, although only for the sake of the cr*p gearbox...
thanks
can i ask why they 'whistle'? mine is and, whilst i understand that it doesn't cause the engine any damage, it's annoying me and i'd like to understand what's going on (it's one of several bones of contention with the dealer who sold me the car)
Can anyone offer a detailed technical description of how the dephaser operates please?
If anyone has one, a photo would be really handy.
Thanks in hope!
i think it's impossible to answer too; casual observation though - the gearing would likely have to be different as the characteristics of each engine's output would likely be very different; a powerful turbocharged engine would (typically) produce it's peak well before an identically powerful...
