I only need a new head gasket as the whole lot was only put on a few miles ago (i've driven it about a mile)
don't need a cambelt as again, that's brand new...
but i had no clue valves were that much!!
If it's ok to re-use them, I will (they're only a few miles old) but I thought they were stretch bolts which shouldnt be reused?
anyone know the bit i need to remove the head bolts?
Got a bit of time, so was going to remove the head on my broken 172 engine and see how bad it is and refit it all properly!
I've got the cam cover and cams removed, to remove the head I just need to remove the exhaust manifold and then the head bolts.
what size torx bit (inverse torx? :S)...
if a leak test comes back as fine... will that mean the valves etc are all fine and i can hopefully put it all back together properly and time it up etc and it should run?
yup, was given to me with the cambelt tensioner loose :(
I've taken the cam cover off and have found that some of the things that the cam lobes pivot (technical innit) were not in their right place!
I thought maybe i could've dislodged them when i removed the cover but on closer inspection...
did this on my mk1 (similar setup i imagine)
without the tool its a complete ball ache... luckily i had to remove my subframe anyway so i just bolted the rack to the subframe, firmly attached mole grips, added a long bit of scaffolding to the equation and managed to free it, whilst standing on...
