Just done a test with a MK1 172, a 172 Cup and a 1.6 16v but Im in two minds whether to post the runs. The AP22 was calibrated using a GPS system against the cars speedos (all three cars have very very accurate speedos by the way - my Williams is a bit out).
We did the runs on a newly...
Heheheh.....I think I will be able to cane your Hartge to 60, but youll claw it back no problem. If anyone thinks that the 172 MK1 has long gearing, then they should take a look at the CooperS!

Ill second Jamie - I had some on some 2nd hand alloys that a bought for an old Clio that I had. They were an absolutely rock solid compound and utterly miserable in the wet and not much better in the dry. Worse thing was that I couldnt wear the feckers out. Dont bother with them!
Ive got one road near me thats okay for 0-70mph, and another one thats fecking miles off but good for 0-100. Just trying to arrange a meet for tomorrow so should have some more data then (including a Cup or two I hope!)

Thats odd. I went out again with just myself, less petrol and a better launch technique and while I did knock some time off the 0-60, it wasnt much (about 0.15 seconds off). Thought it might have been a fair bit quicker.

Oakley - yes, hopelessly out! Its only good for one run with an AP22 on that bit of road. The very bottom bit heading towards chesterfield before the first turn off and at the bottom of the big long hill. However, it is the IDEAL AP22 testing area. Good surface, totally flat and good for over a...
Im not so keen on the twitchyness! Ive got to do something to the way it handles as Im just used to cornering faster in the Williams. I think Ill go with the tried and tested Eibchs first and see how I feel after that.
Cheers all...

Yup, I want that extra response and feel please! I bought some spacers from Halfords cos they were fairly cheap, but I havent fitted them because I wasnt sure if they were too much as Halfords "no one beats us on the number of parts we carry" dont sell ANY wheel bolts, let alone longer ones...
Rich - as you probably know, you need a totally flat road to do AP22 runs. Precious few of those round Sheffield. My favourite one is 10 miles away and its an 8 mile round trip to get back to the start point again!
So, Im intending to do some 100s, but theres no point getting to 100 on a road...
Got mine for £125 from adams_16v who bought it off ebay for a similar price. Seen ones on ebay going for £105, but for gods sake use a sniper tool or the bidding gets pushed right up. They take a fair bit of calibrating, by the way. Ive had to use a GPS unit to measure my speedo, then change the...
Yeah, know what you mean Matt. The thing about the Williams that makes it the best is that it is totally adjustable in corners. My MK2 had more grip than the MK1, but I still had to pick my line and stick to it. Just point the Willy at a corner, chuck it round, and if youve gone in too fast, dab...
Cuppy - not got a PM off you...! I sent you one earlier but no reply.
AP22 is a little performance meter thing. You just stick it to the dash with some blutack and them accelerate and it times you. Got to do it on a really flat road. Theres a bit on the Dronfield bypass thats good to do some...
When? When pushing it as much as Id push the Williams, understeer creeps in. Eg: Im turning the wheel, but the car just wants to go straight ahead.
Dont get me wrong, its not a bad handling car at all. In fact the handling is good compared to most cars that Ive ever driven. Its just that it...
Seriously, I might not be able to beat a saxo, but ive owned the following French hatches and know good handling from not so good (and downright bad!). In order of handling capabilities it goes:
Williams
205 GTi 1.9
172 MK2
172 MK1
206 GTi
There is a corner in the Peaks that I can...
