I've never had an issue myself. I suppose it depends how you look after the car and whether or not you have any mechanical sympathy for it. It'll also depend who does the work, since some would rather spend money getting it done professionally, others would rather do it themselves to save a few...
I'm quite looking forward to this now. I haven't had chance to take the car out for a proper blast since Monday.
I won't be able to stay all day though. I'll need to be leaving at around 1pm.
I'll meet the local lot at the services if somebody actually confirms what time???
Doesn't your boost controller act as a boost gauge? As in show the boost level at any given time? Mine does, although mine's a Gizzmo MS-IBC.
If so, I wouldn't bother fitting a boost gauge personally. However if you still want to fit it, I'd say feeding a new hose is the better solution but I'm...
Direct replacement for the standard diff AFAIK.
Cheapest I've seen one lately is £899 inc VAT, but they go up to about £1,100 depending on where you buy from (I'm looking at getting one myself).
I'm very keen to come to this because it's going to be the first proper chance I'll get to take my car out on a run to test its newly acquired pace.
So.... what time have I got to be there / meet everyone at the services?
I love these. There's a green one in the car park next to my work place and it always looks good no matter how dirty he gets it.
Anybody want to let me test drive theirs? ;)
It's because it's running 2 ECU's - the standard one and an Omex.
The Omex is controlling the fuelling and ignition related stuff and the standard ECU is doing whatever else it would normally do.
The lights on the dash are there because the standard ECU thinks there are several faults. There...
No.. and yes. It's got forged internals (pistons and rods) but the cylinder head is bog standard (unless they've done something with it that I don't know about).
I haven't actually got a print out with the boost line but I'm sure I could get a graph emailed over. Everything's logged on the DD RR's isn't it? So it should be retrievable?
It appears to have been mapped up to 7,500rpm before if you look at the previous graphs. Maybe the injectors couldn't...
The power delivery is surprisingly good actually.
I haven't tried it from a standstill yet (and I won't be doing very often out of mechanical sympathy) but when already moving there's virtually no lag. If you drop a gear and go for it there's no lag whatsoever, just immense grunt.
The power...
I honestly don't know. I don't think to ask these things (mainly because I don't really know much about the subject). Wouldn't surprise me if they are the Meg 225 set though, they look very similar.
It's got a 5 bar FPR fitted if that helps?
It certainly makes you smile.
UPDATE TIME
Yesterday I stripped out some of the interior - rear seats, isofix bar, boot carpet.
I've still got the rear seatbelts, Jesus handles, plastics in the boot, sound deadening tar and a couple of un-needed bits of plastic trim to remove next weekend. I've also got to source and cut...
TBH Steve does have a point.
The difference is that most DIY jobs would be done by rank amateurs or people with little experience. If you do something as a profession then any DIY jobs you do are professional jobs by definition.
It certainly wouldn't put me off buying it knowing how much time, effort and money has gone into it, and I bet most enthusiasts would think the same.
Great work BTW Ben. You've made me want to restore my headlights now. I suppose that'll be a job for me to attempt next Saturday.
I still think...
This.
There's also a free tool from Microsoft called Process Explorer that I find handy. Run it and you can quit processes even if they're locked You can also close open handles to files (infected or malicious ones for example) so that they can be deleted without giving "Access is denied" errors.
