I considered it, but I want to keep this one standard. I think my modding days are behind me 😂
Got it all back together tonight, excuse the copper slip, I was being impatient with the brush. The only thing I need is new pinch bolts now, got some on order to collect in the morning and then it's...
I bought a bigger hammer and broke loads of wood but got the b*****d out last night:
The 'good' one is only bent because it was also pretty corroded so I stuck it in a vice to see if It snapped when I whacked it with a hammer 😂
Springs and top mounts actually look decent, but I'm just...
The MK2 was so much better. Two shock bolt and bosh, shock came out.
Onto the passenger side, pinch bolt nut came off easy, but the bolt was seized good, time for fire
The bolt is out, the shock is moving but it's way more seized than the other side. Stopped for the evening now, might do...
That's the thing, the rest of the car is really clean, no rust underneath or on any suspension/chassis components except the front shocks. A lot could have been replaced though, the front rad support has at some point.
Mk2's are so much easier to work on, what a s**t design to get the strut out.
It took me until it was out to work out what had failed, the bottom spring carrier/plate had corroded badly and broken away from the body.
As per @Hamburglar's request, I jumped on the Milwaukee bandwagon last night. I've had the basket ready for ages, ever since using my uncle's stuff when I got the Clio. Should all arrive tomorrow.
Ordered in M18:
FUEL drill and impact driver with 2 x 5aH batteries in the set they do
Boggo...
It wouldn't be a clio thread without one of these pics, looking like a snapped spring, I'm now waiting at a services to be relayed home which is a bit s**t.
Don't think I'll have enough light today to start taking it apart so that's a job for tomorrow afternoon.
First proper breakdown.
Having a couple of days up in the lakes, driving along and hit a pothole, heard a weird noise. Pulled over and the front spring carrier/base of shock is touching the tyre.
No idea whats failed, but now waiting for recovery to come and take me home.
I want yes, but not just now. This month is the first month in ages I've not had car finance or car bills to pay and I'm feeling very flush 😂
Thanks for the heads up though!
Nice project.
I think they are on the up, prices seem to have risen and availability dropped since I was looking for mine at the start of the year.
My shocks are all crusty like that too, I plan to refresh the entire suspension soon, not too expensive for all new from RPD.
I sold my Arcan XL30r jack last year as it was just too heavy and because there is a gravel drive between my garage and where I work on cars it did my back in moving it around.
I was looking at jacks in Halfords today as I need to replace it, currently rocking my dad's old cheapo halfords...
Like Dave says they’d need dyeing, I also don’t want a full interior
I think it would be best to pick up a pair of normal fronts that have heavy wear for £1k and get trim technique to reupholster them.
Also splitting the cost into two like this makes it easier to justify 🤣
I’d be lying if I said no!
However I have the id ‘quilted’ leather in mine, so I’d want recaros in this finish (only seen one black set ever) or a knackered set to have re trimmed correctly. I reckon it’ll be expensive though!
There’s one set on eBay now in the right finish but red, which is...
This week I got the alignment done, it wasn't that far out at all but the steering wheel was misaligned. When I cleaned the arches I sprayed penetrating fluid on the TREs but they were brand new, suspect they never had it aligned properly after fitting them.
Really been enjoying driving the car...
I bought this last year and it’s been awesome, replaces a decade old brother which was equally as good and reliable. Super cheap toner too.
seems to come in and out of stock randomly...
Spotted it about an hour ago when I went for a quick evening drive in the Porsche.
Looked great, I think I sometimes see it by the detailing company on the road to Slingsby too.
Yep, it's still a great game on PS4 no doubt!
Talking of wheels, I keep getting tempted by an 8020 rig and Fanatec DD Pro for this, seem excessive though! What are others using?
Dolby Vision is a HDR standard. A DV show on the native app looks a hell of a lot better than playing back in standard HDR via SkyQ. I recommend giving it a go, it's absolutely stunning, until it crashes.
The only major differences are graphics, controller support and load times I believe.
If you've never used a PS5 it'll be fine, if you have the load times might feel a bit painful :ROFLMAO:
