one other thing i noticed yesterday with the front offside wheel off the ground was that when i turned the wheel right to full lock, you could hear a feint grinding sound, i think from the shock area, during the last couple of degrees of turning.
dan, i've seen your post in the other unstable thread about sorting the issue with shocks and top mounts. it's on my agenda, but i'm very tempted to give it to a specialist to sort out.
ok, been out there tonight. with the missus turning the steering wheel back and forth you can feel feint knocking when you grab the driver side tie rod. i disconnected the track rod end from the hub and the tie rod can almost just about hold itself horizontal. if i wiggle the tie rod up and down...
how do i check the front shocks? they're not leaking. springs are complete. ball joints are done.
even after having tracking done it still pulls to the right a bit. i'm going to get it double checked at another branch of national tyres tomorrow.
here's the list of things that have been done in...
172 cup.
ive got a non-supersport ktec recessed (not very old)
if i fit a decat will i get that dreaded drone at 55-70, or will i be ok as its got silenced centre section
a drop test, not heard of one but have an inkling and google is my friend. some stuff i've looked at reels off a list of different tests.
for testing cranking power, should i just disable the system and then let it crank for 15 seconds and see what voltage i get? or am i going in wrong...
except to my wallet
im gonna try charging the current one as a matter of course. i had the radio on earlier for around an hour and the interior light on for a couple of hours and it wouldn't start after that. gave me 10.5v. i took it out and left it in the hallway. i tested it again after a...
ok, so the battery for our zafira needs replacing. its a 2002 base model 1.6 engine. a battery for this car cost around £60 (type 075, 55Ah, 550CCA)
as the zafira is based on an astra estate, i checked the battery for a 2002 astra with the same 1.6 engine as the zafira. the batteries for the...
i kind of passed over the fact you referred to it as a clio tt. i've just been reading your build thread. and you want me to go near it with a socket wrench? i'm honoured
i can probably come over monday after work. not promising any miracles but at the very least we can compare with mine and see what's missing. i work in reading so can be over for somewhere between 530-6 which will give us an hour and a half or so of light. ill send you a pm
and that's bearing in mind that to get to the other gears you have to push the joint up into the gearbox (i think for 1st and 2nd) and pull it down out of the gearbox (i think for 5th)?
While its in the air then check for vertical and lateral play in the joints by giving the wheel a good shake, should feel the knock

Seems to be wearing slightly more on the outside than the rest of the tyre. not to a great extent mind. the tracking does need doing as its pulling to the right ever so slightly since i fitted steering rack bushes last weekend. but it was handling like this before i replaced the bushes. but then...
that's one of the new things :)
rear shocks
ball joints
track rods
track rod ends
steering rack bushes
arb bushes
most of the above needed doing as were visibly worn, i haven't done all that in pursuit of resolving this!
