ESD tends to lead to partial damage, which can then cause premature failure of the component (if you're lucky) or worse cause an intermittent issue that you're unlikely to diagnose as a hardware fault. Just the part appears to function correctly immediately, doesn't mean you haven't damaged it.

The drift camera should have come with 2 battery covers, one solid plastic and one with rubber covers over the connections to connect a mic or usb cable. You need to use the latter to expose the connectors.

It's worth looking into Fibre to the mast (FTTM), I have a friend in Lancashire who has it through a company called Boundless but there are a number of companies offering such a service now I believe in other areas.
