That is correct. but.... The MAM of your car, plus the MAM of your trailer can’t go over 3500kg’s in total. And the MAM of the car must be more than the trailer.

I did tow with my B5.5 Passat 1.9 Tdi as it kept me under the need to get a B&E. Towed perfect to be fair. Now I use my Trafic van - but I’m not legal as I haven’t got my trailer license. again, tows perfect. Out of preference and in a perfect world I’d rather have a twin axle - blowouts do...

You need a new subframe mate. Buy a good secondhand one and send it to be shot blasted and powder coated and you’ll be fine for years.

Without meaning to sound rude, it’s all pie in the sky. you need to get the wheel off and have a look yourself or if you’re not confident, get someone who can.

Best case scenario a track rod end. worst case; bottom arm, steering rack, hub, strut.... Or somewhere in between. Impossible to say without seeing it in person.
