28 here now, when I renewed mine last year at 27 with 8 or 9 years NCB I payed £401 quid F/C with the Royal & Sun Alliance. Used a quote from Bell to get them down to that price for renewal doing a price match.
It had been sat in a muddy field for 2 years, half wet flatted as the painter could not be arsed to finish it so the first port of call was to get it polished and protected.
The wheels and arches where done when the wheels came off.
It did when I got it, infact it does now, but I have forced myself not to over polish so limit it to once/twice a year max.

Mine is not in the radio handbook, but in the service book in the front inside cover along with all the other info, VIN number, locking wheel nut number etc.

This was just after a paint clean and sealant by hand in October...
Reconnected my battery on the 182 at the weekend after fitting some wiring for a CTEK battery charger/conditioner, as MrBilly says needed just a radio code, and the clock resetting. The car did make some strange wirring type noises when I tuned the ignition on for the first time after though -...

Before you hit the car hard with your PC please get someone with a paint gauge to measure you paint for you.
I went through the clear on my 309 GTI working by hand with that stuff!
What polishes did you try with the Halfords one?
It did not have the power to break down Poorboys SSR 2 here properly let alone other proper compounds such as SSR 2.5, Megs 83 or Menzerna IP.
Specs for the 172 can depend on the year as to if whether it got swichable ESP/traction, cruise control etc.
Climate control was standard on the phase 2 172 proper.
As long as the person doing it is good it will be A1 - ask around and look at some of there work locally first.
50 quid compared to the costs of a now bonnet, I would find someone to try and get it out.
Not really the products more the prep - if the surface has marring and swirl marks they will hide the flake as it is very fine, as long as the surface is well polished it should help the flake pop out. The products you choose will make a bit of difference, most sealants are clear looking so...
Thats the one, I would advise 2 Sonus 6 inch SFX light cut pads, 2 Sonus SFX polishing pads, 2 Sonus SFX finishing pads and the same amount of each grade in the sonus 4 inch pot pads.
Worth doing a search in the Detailing section as there are a few threads on the porter cable and what to get...
