I only ever use the base colour, never bother with the laquer. Nice thin layers of the base coat, till it becomes level, allow to cure for a few weeks and polish back.

Good choice - enjoy. As for the wheels depending on how bad the scuffs are will deteremine weather they are a chips away type fix or a total refurb.

Welcome to CS. Like anything the repair will only be as good as the person doing it. If you have a good Chips Away type person in your area they should be able to sort them.

Never been a fan of steam cleaning at least with a low pressure flow of water it should only go where you want it to. I use as little water as possible when doing engine bay jobs.
