I wouldnt worry about it, i had my 1.8 reconditioned and it was bad on fuel for the first 1-1.5k miles and guzzled oil. After that it loosened up and is far better even though i floor it nearly all the time.
Have you been back in to have proper oil stuck in and the head torqued down again?

OK, i recently bought some prima sport alloys (willy style) for my valver but am finding that they stick out so much (kerbing wise) that i think im gonna go back to the standard phase 1 alloys.

Ordered a new steering column the other day and was wondering how long itll take to come? I know there was a least a month delay on them but is this still the case?
I think it is really! Once youve got them on, you can go to really wild cams without any of the usual problems (idling etc) so would be looking at about 200-210bhp. Doing the turbo conversion would cost a lot more for no real gain - low pressure conversions would be looking at about the same bhp...

Was about 9-11 degrees the other night and feck me - what a difference! It pulls mentally beyond 5k rpm....quite unreal! Currently got a replacement element for my orig. airbox on order so if it offers the same performance as the cold does for the K&N im gonna be god on the roads!
Been looking at these two but my plan is only to do the rear so its in a R5 Turbo 2 stylee (phat ass only and normal front). Think to get it the arches bonded on and everything painted ill be looking at about 500 or so but bear in mind that youll probably need wider rear alloys after that so...

My sis has a 172 and i have my valver. The 172 is quicker, quieter and doesnt need repaired all the time like mine but even she says that its just a bit dull and not nearly as much fun when compared to mine....
Dont get me wrong, the 172 is an excellent cars but maybe...
Mine never died after starting but the revs did seem to go erratic after fitting my K&N - ie really low then rev up for no apparent reason without me near the gas pedal. Turned out the connector on top of the ICV (i think!) was loose.......prob not much help but you never know.....
Did a search a few mins ago - apparently a few people on here have used comma/slick 50 power steering conditioner/additive
...dunno if this is any use....
Due to get my valver back today from the garage and theyre bleating about the pump being noisy but i cant afford to change it right now so....
Is there anything i can do to quieten it down in the meantime (mechanical or fluid wise)??

It aint better than your cup so you can sleep easy m8! I had a test drive in one and didnt think it better than my siss 172 and only marginal with my valver performance wise!
My friend is also regional organiser for the pug gti club up here and even he doesnt rate them!
Nothing major but 16v/willys tend to exhibit a bit of warping around the rear edges of the sunroof. Noticable on lowered and higher millage cars but as said, its nothing major and you only notice it when looking along the roof....it aint a huge gully!
James, I think the correct one has male trackrod ends and theyre getting one with female trackrod ends so should all be ok. Got a phonecall half and hour ago saying it had defo arrived and theyre working on it right now!!
Heh - ive been driving a 1.2 16v for the past 3 weeks or so while the valvers been away and it guzzles fuel i think. I dont know if this is a car problem or down to me wringing its neck (its only got 400milea on it lol) everytime i drive somewhere....heh - courtesy cars eh? lol
