If hes put a new engine in it then the chances of something being wrong with that one too are slim. As said above, its likely to be the ECU....

Is this possible? When blasting it round town it almost revs drop to about 500rpm when i pull up to a junction when im hard on brakes, stereo on after accelerating hard so im thinking its struggling for power. It got a new alternator and i dont remember it doing this before then....any thoughts?

Sounds more like your cam followers are well worn if it goes away once warm....good excuse to change them and stick a fast road cam in at the same time...

Yep, if its the column, the whole thing needs replaced. If you lift up the rubber gaitor behind the pedals youll a joint and itll prob have excess play if you wiggle the steeering wheel. You shouldnt need the engine out as i think its just about an hour or so to change the column itself. Good...

I have this and think it is the steering column as they are known to go (take it you have a valver/willy?). Id check all the easier stuff first tho just in case - ie trackrods etc... ...you dont want to be replacing everything like me....:oops:

I only thought that de/repressurising a fuel system only applied to diesels - i mean if you ran outta fuel you wouldnt bother about repressurising which is esssentially the same thing... Id say just go for it - youll probably get some spillage when you remove the pipe but otherwise ok...
