but you require more force to have the same hand speed as your turning moment around the pivot point is a shorter distance away (force x disatce)
example
gearstick is 1m long and force applied is 10N (10Nm)
gearstick is 0.5m long and force applied is 10N (5Nm)

not really, if you think about it all you're doing in moving the pivot point
the lower half (below the pivot) of the b&m has to move further than the OE stick, the upper part requires more force to move it
its not a "quickshift" at all, does 0 for gear change speed, is a "sortshift" which...
we had a mk1 172 in for a cam conversion a while back and it had a smashed roller rocker, so it had been a 2.0l 15v from factory!
was kicking out 138bhp! LOL
you're best speaking to BenR (Angelworks head honcho) and paul at RS tuning
its only a minor amount of material thats being removed, i doubt any damage would occur if you didn't get the car mapped, but to see best results a remap would be suggested
cambelt off, cam pulleys off, rocker cover off, cams out
i highly doubt its tapets mate, but then again you did have a knackered oil pump IIRC?
if you've got warrenty just blow the fucker up and get a new engine
