How reliable is the 197?

Just wondering how reliable the new 197. I bought a 172 Mk1 back in 2001 and had it for four years but it broke my heart. The car had so many problems. Belts kept snapping, power steering leaks, starting problems. I am worried if I buy another one I will have the same problems.

There still having trouble with them but theres 3 years of warently plus by the time if you get one ordered now there should be no problems.

IIRC I'm sure I read a couple of owners on here who had 'teething troubles' done under warranty. However, can't remember what problems they were. They all seem happy tho!

I think that first generation 172's were less reliable. I had a mk1 172 and it broke down with a leaking radiator.

However, I have since owned a 172 MK2 and a 182 Trophy, and both were excellent. Yes I had some minor problems, but they never broke down.

my rs1 was fine, as was my 182, and current 197 is good to, no probs so far at 4k.

a friend of mine has the new clio although not a 197,i think its a dynamique and the dash display,speedo etc kept failing at night so the headlights worked but she couldn't see her speed or anything so Renault changed the pinnacle thing abd it still did it.
The car was only 2 weeks old then 2 weeks in the dealers so after a lot of shouting renault gave her a brand new car including air con which she didn't have before.Mind you she knows how to complain

Power steering is electric, hence no hydraulic pipes.

Our demo 197 had 4000 miles on when we sold it, no probs at all.
