okay, heres the worlds smallest update
i was planning on stripping the engine this weekend, well sunday to be precise, but it rained, so i didnt!
as such i decided to dismantle my LEDA's and clean them up in the age old way i know of ;-)
safe and sound...

technically the turbo is a modified example of a lower insurance group car as well I suppose, its only group 12 for a 1.8 16v, where as the 172's are 17 aren't they? there or there abouts?
I cant remember where I checked the guide, but it matches to what the lass on the phone said, moved from a c to a d I think it was? and the charge is a premium adjustment, I've had the paperwork through for both, no admin charge on either, just a premium increase on the 172. yes the broker uses...

mineral oil will be fine, I used it for 400 miles on first low comp build and it was fine for 14k and rings were still mint when I rebuilt....so much so I re-used them! lol!
whatever you do don't buy granite worktops or a Belfast sink, or you'll be selling the Vee and spending the cash on plates and glasses every 2 minutes ;)
as above really, if its all legal there shouldn't be an issue. and there must be loads in a similar position, guys on tour in the army, blokes who do 6 months on oil rigs etc etc

I've got loads to do to my house, and i'm approaching 30 and toyed with the idea of ditching the turbo........but I just know I would really regret it and never be in a position afterwards to do it all over again when I did miss it...

I've bought and sold a fair few sets,always in good nick with good tyres and invariably in the 4-500 quid range for 15"
less for the 16" but only had one set of 16,they were bought and sold for about 250
very very light wheel, 5.1kg in 15" with centre cap and spigot on scientific scales at...
