I've got some 50% uprated ones from Halford and there not much better but its dificult to know. There £17.99 for two which is good value I was blowing about 1 set ver 6 month with stock bulbs these uprated ones have lasted me 2 yrs or so and I've just replaced them today with the same ones...
Yep the oil lubricates the internals so it will make it notcier but it could be other problems best idea is to top up the level as this sorts many issues.
In my mind there two level of tunning the basic exhaust and induction kit etc or the whole whole cams head work throttle bodies etc. It depends what you want to achieve and what you have to spend.

The gearbox filling point is down the front of the box between the gearbox and the radiator. Its a pain to try and fill up you need to make a little bottle with a long thin pipe off it the pipe goes down the front of engine/radiator and you undo the screw on the gearbox and fill it with oil like...
You have to get a manual throttle body and pedal thats what most places do the only other option is to have the stock ECU remapped. The Mk1 172 uses a manual throttle body so thats yor best source from a breakers yard etc.

Drivers side springs will sag slightly as a driver constant weight on the car will affect the springs.
